AVATAR WARS

Rules:

  • Combatants: Each person has a character profile listed below. There are 2 main statistics: strength and defense. Strength determines attack power and defensive determines the amount you are able to block from a physical attack. Originally, a player's strength and defense adds up to 20. Each player starts the battle with 40 health points. A player has a color, weapon, armor, items, and special abilities. Players also have an amount of money to spend which is originally set at 50$.
  • Battle Types: There are a few different types of battling. The simplest is a 1on1 fight. There can also be team battles of any size or a free-for-all battle of any size.
  • Battle Structure: The basic structure of any battle is very simple. They can be performed either on the forum, with mIRC, or through a IM. For each "round", the combatants post their commands (see "Commands") and the referee (usually me, although it can be anyone) writes up a short description of the battle so far and updates the current statistics of each player. The last person with non-zero health wins the match.
  • Attack Damage: (updated) If the attacker has the strength STR and the defender has defense DEF, then the damage received by the attacker, is simply Rand(2,5) + Rand(2/3*STR,STR) - Rand(2/3*DEF,DEF). In English, it's a small value (2 to 5) plus the difference between STR and DEF, with a little randomness thrown in (the variance increases as the STR and DEF grow larger). It can't be lower than 1.
  • Prizes: The prize the winner receives for any battle can be calculated based on the loser's statistics: (STR + DEF)*5 = PRIZE. If it is a team battle, the total prize is calculated for the collective losers, and the prize is divided by the number of winners and given out accordingly. In a free-for-all battle, the last man standing collects the prize for every loser.
  • Buying Stuff: Items/Weapons/Armor/Accessories/Abilities can be purchased at any time, except if you are currently fighting. If you are fighting, things must be bought before you enter your first command. If you buy an ability, it functions just like your custom ability. (meaning it can be used once per battle) You can only carry 2 of any item at one time.
  • First Strike: First of all, the ratio of avatar sizes smaller/bigger is calculated to be X, where 0 < X <= 1. The HP bonus for the larger is given by L = (1 - X)*10, where 0 <= L < 15. The percentage chance for the smaller avatar to strike first in every round is given by C = (100 - 50*x), where 50 <= C < 100. If the person with First Strike uses a stun attack, the slower person can still carry out their action normally, and they will be stunned next turn. However, if the faster person uses any move other than a stun move, the slower person is affected by the faster person's attack. So if the faster person lowers the enemy's attack by 6, the slower person will have a weakened attack, on their move.
  • Colour: Avatars have a "colour" attached to them, to make battle more interesting. I'm giving each of you a colour, based on the dominant color in your avatar. Possible colours are: blue, yellow, red, green, black and white. You are weak to this colour. Special abilities can affect a certain colour (for instance, blizzard affects blue). If you are blue, and your opponent uses Blizzard (or any other "blue" ability) it multiplies the damage by 1.5
  • Betting: betting IS allowed by non-combatants. You can't bet more than you have. All bets must be placed before the end the first round to be valid. If the person you betted on loses, your bet gets subtracted from your money. If you win, you get the amount you betted, multiplied by the odds of that person losing.
  • Commands: all commands consist of 2 components: stance and action. Stances are: normal (no statistic modification), aggressive (+3 STR, -3 DEF) and defensive (-3 STR, +3 DEF). Actions can be either attacking, using an item, or using a special ability. In a 1on1 battle, simply pick one of the 3. In a battle with more than 2 combatants, you must also select a target for your action (if applicable. some attacks don't require a target) If you really want, you can "pass" on your turn and do nothing.
  • Special Abilities: special abilities can only be used once per battle. If you have multiple abilities, you can use each one once. There are, however, items/accessories to change this. If a special ability is currently in effect, the same ability cannot be used again. Meaning you can't double stun someone with the same stun ability.
  • Summoned Creatures: Summoning spells are the most deadly abilities in the game. Essentially the summoned creature works like another character controlled by the summoner. It can take a stance, and perform an action. It has STR, DEF, and HP. It's colour is both it's weakness and it's strength. There are items to counter summoned creatures, and there are items to make them more powerful. Summonings are used like normal spells except the summoner is stunned for one turn after casting the spell. The summoned creature is summoned into existence during the turn where the summoner is stunned. More than one summoned creature can be present, but not the same one for one summoner. Meaning both combantants can have a Frost Wyrm summoned and one person can have a Treant and a Frost Wyrm. But one person cannot have 2 Frost Wyrms.

  • Red Shiruken: a deadly ninja star, which inflicts 3-5 damage and lowers the enemy attack by 4-5 for 3 turns (color: red) (cost: 10$)
  • Blue Shiruken: a deadly ninja star, which inflicts 3-5 damage and lowers the enemy defense by 5-6 for 4 turns (color: blue) (cost: 10$)
  • White Shiruken: a deadly ninja star, which inflicts 3-5 damage and disables special abilities in the opponent for 2-3 turns (color: white) (cost: 10$)
  • Call Bead: one of the most powerful items in existence. This bead summons another Avatar War fighter into the fight, for a short period of time, essentially making it 2on1 for a while. The summoned person cannot be summoned against his/her will, and he/she can only use abilities/items/accessories inherent to his/her respective character. (meaning the summoned person can't use the summoner's items for him) The summoning lasts 1-3 turns. (cost: 50$)
  • Holy Hand Grenade: requires 3 turns to detonate. When it does, it inflicts 17-20 on all opponents. It can be diffused by inflicting 12 damage on it, and it has 12 DEF. (color: white) (cost: 20$)
  • Wand of Negation: inflicts 12-22 damage on a summoned creature (cost: 10$)
Weapons
  • Weapon Upgrade: to provide customizable weapon upgrades for players, the cost for a weapon upgrade will be 25+(Next Weapon Level*25)$. All weapons start at Level 0, so the first upgrade costs 50$. An upgrade gives you +2 attack, and you can rename your weapon to fit it's upgraded nature. Indicate the weapon's new name, when you ask me to purchase the upgrade for you.
Armor
  • Armor Upgrade: to provide customizable armor upgrades for players, the cost for an armor upgrade will be 25+(Next Armor Level*25)$. All armor starts at Level 0, so the first upgrade costs 50$. An upgrade gives you +2 defense, and you can rename your armor to fit it's upgraded nature. Give the new name, like with weapons.

  • Mindbomb: The enemy cannot use special abilities for the next 4-5 turns. (color: yellow) (cost: 70$)
  • Subtle Knife: attacks enemy using their defense against them. Damage dealt is 5 + DEF (DEF is of the enemy) (color: red) (cost: 50$)
  • Stasis Field: inflicts 4-5 damage and stuns an enemy for one turn (colour: blue) (cost: 50$)
  • Thorns Aura: any magical/physical attack that you receive, the attacker will receive 1/2 the damage in return. Lasts 3-4 turns. (Color: Yellow) (cost: 40$)
  • Cannabalize: inflicts 4-6 HP and regain double that in HP (color: red) (cost: 50$)
  • Mindmeld: allows you to perform an ability of your enemies (cost: 110$)
  • Starfall: deals 0-4 damage for 8 turns (color: blue) (cost: 80$)
  • Rage Shield: raises attack relative to the damage received. Attack up = damage / 3. Attack increases end when shield's life ends. Lasts 5-7 turns. (color: green) (cost: 60$)
  • Antimatter Explosion: deals 5-20 damage with a large particle explosion (color: black or white) (cost: 60$)
  • Summon Treant: summons a lumbering Treant to the battlefield which has 12 STR and 10 DEF. Can be killed, by inflicting a total of 20 damage on the Treant. (color: green) (cost: 120$)
  • Summon Wisp: summons a helpful Wisp, which heals the summoner by 8-10, and can be killed by inflicting 20 damage. Has 6 STR and 6 DEF. (color: none) (cost: 100$)
  • Aura of the Miser: activating this shield allows you to receive 1$ for every point of damage you receive. It also regenerates your character 5 HP per turn in effect. It lasts 2-3 turns. (cost: 30$)

  • Devotion: increases your DEF by 5-10 for 3-4 turns (color: none) (cost: 40$)
  • Preempt: decreases enemy STR by 4, and increases your DEF by 4 for 1-2 turns (color: yellow) (cost: 40$)
  • Summon Water Elemental: summons a raging Water Elemental, which has 10 STR and 10 DEF. It has 30 HP. (colour: blue) (cost: 130$)
  • Rage Blast: inflicts 4-6 damage and forces the enemy to attack aggressively for the next 2-3 turns (color: red) (cost: 20$)
  • Dispell: dispells all status effects currently in effect on both people. Can be cast when specials are disabled. (cost: 100$)
  • Undead Frenzy: puts the user into a state of frenzy, raising their attack by 6-9 and giving them first strike. Unfortunately, it also drains 5 HP per turn in use. Lasts 2-4 turns. (cost: 40$)

I altered my Def and Str the way you can see. And a rules question: when you use and ability at the beginning of turn X, can you still use an item too that same turn X? If not, can my ability be made so that this is possible?

I'm not responding on MSN because MSN is sitting and running on my Home computer, while I am currently at work, where we're not allowed to have MSN installed.

hmmm... that special of yours seems needlessly complicated. I'll try to think of a way to simplify it and keep the same effect.

edit: How does this sound? It makes you immune to damage for 2 turns. It ends automatically when you take an offensive action (ie. attack, use a throwing star, use a special ability that inflicts damage[thorns aura doesn't count], etc...)

What about these 2 abilities, one just to clearify a special element of the spectre, and a real useable special ability:

Spectre (automatic):The spectre cannot do anything but the normal stance when not performing any battle action, therefore no Strength and or Defense can be modified by different stands.

Thinner than air: The spectre melts together with the air. He cannot be hit by any physical, black or white attack for 2 turns. During this state of disembodiedness the spectre can not attack in any form and can use no magic at all (with the exception of Purge). Items can be used if only affecting the spectre itself and only for healing purposes.

I can live with that No serious it's more than fine. And I didn't want to be able to take the def/agg action when performing a non-combat action because I thought it was too good an ability. But if you don't think it is, then ignore that part.

I also thought about opting for an other ability, namely being constantly concealed for 10% so that every time there is a 10% chance an attack from the opponent misses, excluding spells.

I am still not sure which one to take, let it be the first for now, maybe I'll get back to it later.

I will edit my profile now.

EDIT: Oh and I thought of another thing: the Agility statistic. If we can make some sort of formula for the avatar size to end up being a number from 1-20 or something, it could just be another statistic and not some strange number. Also make some sort of rounding up in it so that an 120×141 av won't be the first to attack a 120×140 av but that it will be like 50% or something. If you think this is a good idea I'll look into a formula.

In the case of the 120x141(joe) vs 120x140(bob) this is what would happen.
Joe get 0 Bonus HP.
Bob has a 50% chance of going first.
Because Bob is smaller he goes first in the first round, and there's a 50% chance of him going first every round after that.
This isn't enough of a difference to matter.

If they happened to be 120x141(joe) vs 120x40(bob) you would get the following:
Joe: +7 bonus HP
Bob: 86% chance of first strike.
Bob get's the first blow of this combat round, and has an 86% chance of going first every round there after.

hmm... Brydon, that power of yours seems a little over powered.

I jus tdon't like the idea of all your potions healing 27-36hp, the heal power granting 30-45, etc...

I'll have to math that one out a bit and see if it's balanced. May have to make it a use activated ability with a duration (ie. all healing effects for the next X-Y rounds are increased by 50%).

Admittedly I started bidding a little high because I wasn't sure how relevant healing would be in this game. I'd prefer it to be a passive ability. Would dropping it to 30% and keeping it as a passive be ok?

I'll mess around with the numbers a bit and see if I can come up with something.

There's actually a lot of different ways that you can get healed.

This would, for example, boost the life drain of the vampiric gauntlets from 30% to 45% (assuming the 50% still). the ring of regen would give 3-6 hp per turn (not a small amount). as I mentioned before it makes the vials of life almost as good as their big brother. plus the actual heal ability. Cannabalize would inflict 4-6 and you would regain 3x that amount.

as I said, I'll mess with the numbers and come up with something that fits.

Okay, looking at things, there are no special abilities that are passive like that. they all need to be activated. So I'm going to keep it that way.

How's this sound? All healing effects are increased by 50% for 3-5 rounds.

Yuber, your special is WAY to powerful. 4 attacks in a single round? not gonna happen.

if you looked at mine you would see that it's 2 attacks in a single round and I'm Stunned afterwards for 1 round, with no chance to prevent the stunning.

Maybe if you made 4 attacks each doing 1/3rd damage each, that might be reasonable. Or maybe if your attacks score was halved for those 4 attacks, or something like that.

Or we could just have those 4 attacks do a flat 1-5 damage each.

Or a possiblity might be to have each blow inflict damage equal to 1/4 of your attack score, unmodified by their defence value.

Loop, I'm going to change your special so that it gives a bonus to attack rather then damage. Because if that's +5 damage on all attacks, and you usea special that hits 8 times for 0-2 damage, now you'd hit 8 times for 5-7 damage, or an average of enough damage to kill everybody in a single blow.

Let me guess, you have yours set to the default of only showing threads from the last 30 days...

you'll note the dropdown in mine says show all threads from the begining, not from the last 30 days.

on another note, I have a web based attack calculator done up. Only thing left is to add a function to automtically give you first strike % and HP bonus. You can find it Here.

edit: FS % & HP + calc has been added
