ok if the food cap is 90and heroes were 12 i think or something so that leaves 12-36, i want to buy at least 15-25 workers, if any creature takes 2 food or more, that leaves 31 if you go the smaller route (12,15) and 14 if you go the bigger route (36,25). the smaller route would work but i would not like to have 14 guys or less. ANd in war 2 didnt the farms only provide 4 food, if thats how it is in war3 it seems like you will be building a farm every two seconds.

You probably lost me midway but there are a few things. First of all are you sure having one third of your food cap be workers is wise? I mean sure you'll get a decent income, but those units ARE contributing to your upkeep as well. Quick attackers would be able to mow you down if they've got a better ratio and can mine the same amount with more offensive units in a lower upkeep level.

LET ME EXPLAIN MORE CLEARLY
12food to heroes, 10-15 for workers,90-27=63
63divided by 2 =31.5 thats a fair amount of guys

36 food to heroes, 20 workers, 90-56=34
34divided by 2=17 now thats not alot of guys
plus some are worth more then 2

Heroes are worth 5
You would not build 15-25 workers in any game! That is crazy
Maybe 3-5 for gold and about 6 for lumber

90-15(heroes)-10(peons)=65, 32 units is fine

You cannot compare to Warcraft II. In warcraft II, the units were weaker but in higher numbers. In warcraft III, each unit will be much more powerful than in war2. It will be much harder to kill war3 units than war2 units. Farms will give about 12-15 food i would guess

actually in starcraft it was nice to have 30 workers.

but blizz said you'll only need five or so in war3.

and yeah, i like the food cap how it is now. but it really says nothing. its more important that Rob Pardo says that you will mostly fight with armies of 10-20 units. And that is really nice i think.

Hmm, You really want to quarry from at least 2 goldmines during mid/late game, which will require approx. 10 peons. Then you will need approx. 5 peons harvesting lumber.

1 peon = 1 foodunit

15 peons = 15 foodunits
3 heroes = 15 foodunits

90-(15+15) = 60 foodunits = 30 units a 2 foodunits.

Seems reasonible.

But are Peons 1 food unit?

If you are only supposed to have about 5 workers, maybe they work faster or more efficently.

It does say "most peons units" costing 1. So what "peon-type" units will cost more, I wonder? Wisps maybe cuz they are the food cap, too? Do they consider Ghouls peon units since they harvest wood?

I would think most basic fighters(footman, grunts) will cost 2 food and advanced units(sorceress, Shaman, Druids, Raiders, FWs, and basically everything else) will cost 3-4.(I would definetly not be surprised to see the FW take 4+ food).

Actually, I think it's more likely the Wisps don't cost any food...

I believe its the ghouls that cost 2 food units since there a offensive unit, yet they harvest lumber, i read somewhere that ghouls will harvest lumber in a faster rate to make up for the disadvantage.

What if when Blizzard said that there are usually 10-20 units per player in a game, that wasnt the pop limit. It could just be that they wanted less upkeep, and that was the border between low and high upkeep, so they sometimes made more guys when attacking, and the rest of the time they just kept enough guys for base defense?

As necrosteve said,
(sry i dont know how to quote ppl, i just copied this)

12food to heroes, 10-15 for workers,90-27=63
63divided by 2 =31.5 thats a fair amount of guys

And farther down, people say that you only need 5 or so peons, freeing up more space for guys.

So, could it just be that they dont need more guys in the game than 10-20, I mean, in other games I am used to making as many guys as I can with the money I have, but here it might be better to get more money by going for high quality guys over masses.
