Hahah! 9 people (!!!!!) of my facebook friends have posted links to articles about Texas schoolbooks and either loling or expressing contempt. A lot of comments like " Only in the southern states of the U.S. lulz". Changing slavery to "Atlantic triangular trade" and changing imperialism to expansionism. And that there's little about evolution has been the most common lolz. Texas is now an even greater laughing stock. I overheard a discussion yesterday: " Sigh ... what more can you expect from Texas" and the classical " Don't mess with Texas, it's not polite to pick on retards."

There are off course also references to Newspeak the language used by the upper class in the fiction " 1984". This needs fixing.

Isn't it the conservatives who always talk about liberals "brainwashing" their children? is this considered counter brainwashing?

What's that classic paladin quote? "You can't argue with my ignorance." I think the children of Texas are about to be taught a unique brand of determined, willful ignorance. Congratulations?

It worries me that this is what most people think of when they think of our nation as a whole.

That bit about not wanting students to learn about transgenders and 'God knows what else' concerns me more than anything else, because at some point these kids are going to leave Texas and if they ever go somewhere like, oh, I don't know, any major metropolitan area on the eastern seaboard their brains are fucked.

Yeah. Your fear of big government is some times damaging. In every other nation the nation experts chooses what to put in the curriculum, not dentists and middleschool teachers.

Did I ever mention the time I stayed at a hotel in Venice with my brother, and we couldn't sleep because of the Texans upstairs. They had their window open wide and were blaring on and on about all the sex they'd had back home with some neighbor's daughter, and her sister, and cousin, and the mom, etc, etc...

Then they went on to farm animals...

Worst hotel experience of my life.

Looking back I'm not sure if they were serious. With a Texan drawl, no one ever sounds really serious, but they didn't sound like they were joking either.

I thought that Texas was one of the largest consumers of text books in the US. So what goes in Texas goes for the rest of the US. After all that would save cost to the producer of the text books... That is the only thing that really worries me, but I don't know how the American system works so, meh...

The fear of big government is what I believe is the reason why school-boards pick the books instead of the experts from the respected fields. This leads to people who are uneducated in the subjects and the paradigms of the field to pick the schoolbooks and the curriculum. That's when you get books like the famous Of pandas and people: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Of_Pandas_and_People

Since the ID case is now lost and beaten back to the romantic era, where it belongs the focus is now on social studies and history. Taking out Jefferson's separation of church and state and Thomas Paine a central figure of the enlightenment in the US.

The worst thing is that now the books are available cheap to every school. Since every school chooses their own books, religious schools and schools with bad economy might now choose the Texas book. This sucks so extremely bad!

The U.S. rocks and sucks so hard. You make a synthetic cell one day and the next you rewrite history and fucks every minority in the ass.

Texas is the 2nd largest schoolbook market in the US, which, thankfully, is balanced out by California, the largest textbook market in the US. After that Florida, New York, and Illinois top out the top 5. While i cant say much for Florida, NY and IL back up CA in keeping the information in textbooks from veering too far to the right.

Texas can be really lame sometimes. Plenty of Texans are normal (people living in San Antonio, Austin, and to a lesser extent, central Dallas and Houston), but man, the ones living out on the farms and out in the prairies are completely retarded or something.

No. These people are just fucking idiots. They also believe the earth is 6000 years old. Stupidity knows no political affiliation.

Yes the once proposing the books are that. But the reason they have the opportunity to do it is because your not letting the government experts choose what to teach the children.

This one isn't big government per se. This one is the belief in the power of the vote. They opened up the Board to elections rather than technical appointments, opening the door wide to demagougery. All you have to do to elected is talk about how much a fag the other guy is and that he'll make your kids gay.

Next thing you know, they'll be busy voting for the Generals at the Pentagon.

The problem with American hate of big government is that they solve government incompetence and corruption by decreasing their mandates, rather than clearing out the chaff.

The bigger problem here (which I don't think has been touched upon) is that most schools aren't buying text books right now. Thus Texas, who has the vast amount of purchasing power, can in effect dictate content of these books.

Potentially these "Texas" style edumacational materials could find their way to many other states a few years down the road and ultimately lead to many of America's youth finding these absurdities to be truth.

K, so they're stupid... but they cook great meat. I have an itinerary planned for Austin and surrounding area. I wanna hit the BBQ places there, maybe a college football game too. Not sure when I'm going to do that though.

MMMMM... Brisket... Sausage... Steak... ya... Wanna go to Texas...

Ah shit... I wanted to hit Galviston too... but that beach is probably shit now cause of the oil spill.

Honestly most Texas beach sucks, but South Padre isn't too bad, and Corpus Christi/Port Aransas is ok

Mostly I'm looking forward to the BBQs and maybe a college football game somewhere (I don't care who I see). You know, I always thought your avatar was you at one of those texan BBQ places, is it?

...oh and Austin City Limits, ya I wanna hit that.

Anyhow thanks,

Uganga, slightly worse than Texas, even though they are supported by Texans.
