Bluecrescent merchants. Weaponsmith to the left on foot, Armorer to the right on the tiger, druid selling Trade Components, and Sothonon in the back filling the role of the spellcasting tree of lumberjack-slaying.

...Damn, this place needs more Shrubbery. Yes... I shall add more shrubbery. And probably more killer trees. They can keep the Shrubberies as pets... So it shall be.

Also, how does map size affect loading? especially in multiplayer maps, and is there a maximum size for maps?

The maximum is like 4 Mb. The map right now is 3.0 Mb. Frightening. I'll probably have to cut down on some of the custom content and random icons and crap that isn't required...

It'll probably be smaller in the final version (for one, protection should gut the trigger files and increase compression of the whole thing by a significant fraction). It'll take a bit longer to download than most things, I suppose, but I've downloaded 1 and 2 Mb maps reasonably quickly - It's doable if the host doesn't suck and if you've got broadband (like all sane people living in this age of rapidly evolving technology - you have, haven't you?). Also, after beta testing and vicious extermination of all important bugs, the thing will probably have 1 major version, so once you download it the first time, you shouldn't need to download it again. At least, unless I find more stuff that needs fixing and put out a version 2.0. If that happens, it will probably be a big step up with more additions and it'd be worth the download.

Shaman in Greenshades. You can see the 4 spellbook buttons - Spirit, Earth, Storm, Fire, in that order.

Spirit spells are generally buffs like Bloodlust, or stuff like Binding of Wills that locks down enemies. Perhaps a summoning spell to call up ancient ghosts to slaughter stuff.

The elemental spells all have some direct damage, but also possess certain buffs and conjuration spells.

Earth, for instance, has a Summon Golem spell that upgrades every time you get a new level of spellbook, going from weak clay/mud golems to granite golems, iron golems, steel golems, etc. One of the first spells is Hurl Boulder. The other destructive spells come fairly late, but you get a pretty vicious Earthquake. There's also a spell that conjures a barrier of rock to block paths, and an Fortitude of Earth defensive spell.

Storm is more damage oriented and has an array of electric spells - there are the "seeking" Chain/Forked Lightning and channeled Call Storm spells. Lightning Shield is in there, as is Purge. Then there's the Thunderbolt spell that first calls down one precisely aimed blast and upgrades with the spellbook to get more bolts per cast... you essentially get Thunderbolt I, II, III, IV, V, with each level replacing the previous, adding 1 more bolt and doing slightly more damage per bolt. The area of effect increases slightly but is always pretty focused, unlike, say, wide-area Blizzard.

Fire is the most damage intensive, and the damage is used both to directly harm and to discourage attackers. Flame Shield and Wall of Fire create damage-dealing barriers that enemies ought to stay out of or get torched. The Volcano spell will probably be somewhere in the later levels.

Compared to Warlock fire spells, however, you don't get all the most damaging spells of the terrifying kind, like Incinerate or Firestorm. Those are pretty much exclusively Warlock. After all, demons are just that much more pyromaniacal than some translucent old orcish fogeys. Then again, it's the translucent old orcish fogeys that can summon a 20-foot death-machine of pure metal, shield it with ball-lightning, Bloodlust it, and then paralyze you so that all you can do is look up in terror at the giant and high-velocity iron fist about to connect with your skull... Bwahaha.

Soon, perhaps... The way progress is going, everything is being done simultaneously - terrain, heroes, triggering - so no specific category is fully done, but all are gradually getting there. I suppose I should fill out that last bit of Hollowdark, finish up the merchants, stick a crafting table thingy in Orthargan, and then at least the overall world part will be finished. Then there's still the last of the hero classes, abilities, quests, and all that... gah.

As in all rogue encounters, the Dragon gets backstabbed in the stomach. He replies with a Blizzard spell, and the Rogue inflicts poison damage (40 over 20 seconds). The beast has, what, 36000 HP?

The dragon is briefly stunned. Chance-based abilities do not play well with the laws of physics, much less physiology. At this point, the Rogue is quite near death.

1-3 80th-100th levels for the dragon, depending on strategy.

They don't always die, of course. Consider the gnolls, furbolgs, rogue stabbing frenzy on the hapless spiders, and all the other slaughter of indigenous lifeforms.
