When considering the concept of weberian domination in our society do you think it's plausible to suggest that a condition free from domination could be possible without killing everyone but one? Or is the issue of freedom just to keep domination to a minimum level?

Are you talking about the concepts of charismatic domination, traditional domination and rational-legal domination? If so, why couldnt you be more explicite about it in your first post? That is, unless you want to keep your thread clean of people who have never read Weber before.

To ask if its possible to live entirely without freedom, or entirely without domination is a purely theorical question, a mere thought experiment that I dont see the point of doing. A more practical and interesting question would be to try and find optimal combinations of various degrees of freedom and domination within specific contexts.

For exemple, if the context is contemporary America, with its own security issues, what is the optimal limit on freedom in order to ensure security? In who's interest would this be? Through which type of domination could freedom be curbed or promoted? A leader's charismatic ability to paint an ominous imminent threat, or a leader's use arguments constructed from America's traditional cultural view on freedom?

Micky Mouse on Crack

Do you mean Domination on the webb?

I think it is possible for a person to avoid visiting that kind pages, they are unlikely to be stumbled upon without actively looking for them, unlike pages with more mainstream mature content. that is, at least, my experience.

Domination refers to those asymmetrical relationships of power in which the subordinated persons have little room for manoeuvre because their margin of liberty is extremely limited quoted in Hindess' Discourses of power

The answer is that in much of Foucault's work, as in much of critical theory, domination is regarded as something that should be avoided whenever possible. Hindess suggests that if this is the case then power in general should be distinguished from domination.

Now the problem is not just simply avoiding relationships of power but to minimize those of domination. This is to be done in the name of liberty ofcourse. Nietzsche suggests that history is just a rotation of different (class) dominations.

Now then.. how would you challenge the domination of capital or that of the US?

The capital doesn't dominate the individual but rather the state. States don't have much room for manoeuvre in their economic policy.

Migth want to rephrase that question then. Unless you really mean for individuals to challenge the State because of the domination of economic liberalism.
