Here's something I've wondered about for awhile, since the manuals aren't really that clear on it. We know the Twisting Nether connects the various worlds of the universe together. (As per the description in the War3 manual under the Burning Legion history)

So what is this "Great Dark Beyond?" It is just the description for everything in the universe, or is it another name for the Nether? Or is the Twising Nether sort of like a spirit dimension (Or Subspace if you want to use a Star Trek euphanism) while the Great Dark is the universe?

What do you guys think?

Sincerely,
Jeremy Dunn

"The Great Dark Beyond" I believe is anything outside Azeroth to Aegwyn, because it's unknown.

The warcraft astronomy must be an abundance of highly accurate, unit sized stars that react to the slightest, magicly induced gravitational pull.

Actually, the Great Dark Beyond is used multiple times in the Burning Legion history, meaning that Aegwyn wasn't the only one to use it.

Jeremy Dunn

I have always thought of "the Great Dark Beyond" as anything they see when they look up. (In other words the ) universe, while the "Twising Nether" was like a "spirit dimension/subspace" type thing... That may be due to the fact in another stroy I have somewhere they talk about "the Great Dark Beyond" and travelling to the distant lights in the "the Great Dark Beyond" through the "land of shadows" but all that has nothing to do with warcraft really, its just the same name... meh...

i'm thinkin that the great dark beyond is basically space... the rest of the universe. and the twisting nether is just basically another dimension where the demons dwell and use there magic to create dimensional portals from there to other worlds. (such as draenor and the warcraft world) speaking of which... has the planet where warcraft takes place ever been named?

So where there is war, we will be there...
Where there is death, we will be there...
And where there is pain, hatred, and evil, we will be there!

I dont think it was intended to be, but since the 1st Warcraft was based in Azeroth, the name started applying to all of the World of Warcraft, not just the country of Azeroth.
