I was wondering if you would be able to destory gold mines.

I got to thinking about the KofG's ability to grow trees. With this ability, the NE constantly have a resource of trees, which seems unfair. But the Mountain King also has the Create Gold Mine thing, which sort of keeps things balanced (and I'm sure the other races will have similar abilities to keep things balanced).

However, my main concern is the KotG's ability to banish trees. With this spell the KotG could eliminate all the trees around someone's base, and hence leave his enemy with little (or no) trees as a resource. But he can always grow himself more trees.

Now, if the KofG can very easily eliminate one resource that he can easily regrow back for his team's own resources, doesn't it make sense that the Gold Mines can also be destroyed. Think about that for a few seconds. It makes sense to me, but it's hard to describe.

Basicly, to keep things balanced, I think Blizz will make Gold Mines Destructable (but probably really strong).

Blizz always said that you could destroy them.... and you could destroy gold minesi n war2. they did say that you can destroy them in war3, but you cant destroy neutral buildings, of which gold mines are not one.

Good point! Besides being destructable the gold mines would also have to be build in order to function properly. (Like in Starcraft where you had to place the refinery upon the geyser).

Gold mines have always been able to be destroyed. In WC1, that was one of my favorite tactics.
And if you balance all the races too much, then they become all the same. The KotG's tree spell is adding an element of strategy in the Night Elves favor-but it also adds strategy to the defender. I'm sure Gold Mines will still have hitpoints-even if it is 10,000+!

A few people have said that gold mines were always destroyable... I did not know that. But are you guys saying that just because in was in WC2? Because I don't ever remember hearing Blizz say that (as WTF has suggested). You gotta a source?

BTW, I played WC2 and I don't remember being able to destroy gold mines.

Gold mines had a mother load of hit points-but you could destroy them. It just took way too long to be worth it. They even burned when you got their hitpoints low just like a building

I havn't heard anything from Blizzard on the subject for WC3 though.

I just did a quick check on Blizzard's FAQ page (I opened each page and did a search on gold), and it says nothing about Gold Mines being destrucable. It does, however, say that Gold Mines "will work in a manner similar to the Gold Mines in WarCraft II". Now if you take this literally, then I suppose they are destroyable, but I am not sure that is what Blizzard meant. I think they meant to say that the Gold Mines are places where you can harvest gold.

Anyways, I hope you guys are right, but I'm not convinced. Being able to destroy gold mines leads to many new strats.

You know, now that I think about it, I think I remember discussing this topic after a fan chat that said gold mines were not destroyable. I remember having a long thread with MadeBlaster about the topic. Maybe he can confirm it. It was about 6 months ago, so I'm not too sure. But I do remember talking to MadeBlaster about it. I hope he reads and answers this.

Anyways, I vote the next fan chat should have a question concerning this issue.

the KotG can only kill/regrow 1 tree at a time so the chance of him destroying an opponents entire supply is very rare since its also his ultimate spell so only 1 tree/day

I second that. I can't stand it when people talk so confidently about things they know nothing of. Joe, you were so wrong about all you said. The regrowing and banishing of trees is an area of effect spell.

I agree. Definetly bullshit. That would make the spell a worthless peice of shit. It is area effect. And that area increases with the spells lvl I beleive.

The basic spell only regrowth one tree but it uses a little mana so you can regrowth more trees than one till the mana's end.

I'll just make sure no one gets near mine. (excuse the pun)

In any case, the correct spelling for the KofG's spells are:
Tranquility (The canceling one)
Nature's Touch (The Greenies' friend.)

I hope this makes everything perfectly clear.

One thing, that natures touch doesnt matter so much cause u dont need lotsa wood, u only need little wood.

Like if u put 10 grunts to harvest trees for 2 or more minutes u've got urself wood supply that last for the whole game

Shcolonger said that while growing your base you need 6-7 seven wood choppers and about the same for gold but you'll want to get more mines as you can only have one inside at a time.

And remember the mortar team (im not sure of this one) and catapult can cut trees too, and theres lots of trees in the map, and ofcourse u can build a lumber mill far away from ur base and make lotsa towers near it

But to get back to the topic...
Does anyone know if gold mines are destructable? I mean do you know for sure. And fact that it was possible in WC2 isn't a good reason to assume it is in WC3.

Blizzard can balance Regrowth by changing the radius it effects.

Let's say it gives/takes 3-6-9 trees depending on it's level. You, being a KotG "cheater", put your first 3 points on Regrowth, and your enemy puts them on something actually worthwhile in combat. While you fool around injuring his secondary resource, he kicks your sorry ass with superior fighting skills.
