Since when weren't PCs faster?
PCs have and will always be faster then macs cause whats macs fasts mac? 800mhz right?
And PCs are? 2.2Ghz right?
For thoughs of you who don't know 2.2 = 2200mhz witch is almost 3times faster than 800mhz. Does that clear it up for a few of you? I hope so cause i saw people saying that 800mhz magically = 2.2Ghz

That's ridiculous. Do you know anything anything about processor architecture? The sony playstation ran at 33 mhz, and that means it would hardly meet the system requirements for Warcraft 1, by your logic? The Nintendo 64 ran at 94 mhz? The processor cycle rate is a meaningless figure, when compared cross-platform.

Llama, I can't argue the "upgradability" much, other than to say that there is a large market for people who don't play games, and/or would never upgrade their system by themselves. You don't represent the average computer user, and there are more and more people who buy computers who aren't necessarily technologically-minded.

Apple is trying to gain a foothold in that market. They obviously can't compete with PC and the myriad of clones in the "cheap upgradable box of parts"-market since they refuse to licence their hardware patents.

So very true. Imagine how much better as sompany they could do if they released their products to both platforms. MMm imagine the Ipod usable on a PC. Its almost like they dont want to make money. Oh well, their crappy decesions.

Sony plystation, N64 I am sorry you happen to have mistaken this PC and Mac thread for a Playstation and N64 thread, but thats ok it everyone every once and a while how about you try it again. Warcraft1 was ever made for nether one of those. And this time try to stay with the topic.
Thanks

Macs use less energy so no fan or HUGE box is needed!
-I'd rather have a huge box than a child's toy that could be lost under a pile of clothes. Plus, i would hate having no fan in my computer. It gets really hot around here, so I dont want to ruin my computer because some dipshit thought it would be cool to have no fan.

Macs get the best stuff first!
-Okay, you got the geforce 3 first... thats it. Plus, its not even the best. You get games second, the Radeon 8500 isnt even out for macs yet. This is just a blatant lie.

They look better!
-Looks are a matter of opinion. I personally think they look like something I would have gotten for my birthday when I was four.

They ARE faster, the top mac is 80% faster than top PC!
- You have yet to prove that. I have seen no evidence of a mac going faster than a PC. I provided some links, all you've done is link ot the maker's website. How about you find a nice benchmark (I already explained what those were to you before) and post it here.

Just check Mac Man's posts he knows alot! NOW SHUUUT UP!
-He didnt really prove anything, just like you. All he did was some say some stuff that apple has already said. You're Apple's puppets, just repeating everything they say over again without any actual proof.

i'm definatly thinking of going mac with my next computer purchase. looks like a great os, and plus, my mom gets discount on them. now with this new machine, i'm almost definatly going with it. i used a mac at my friend chad's house (he has two g4s) and i was really impressed with it's interface. seems like they simplify everything. my start menu always gets cluttered. i realize that this is mostly due to my own neglagence, but if the shoe fits, i'll wear it. now with 3000mhz, whoa. nice. i'm probably going with it.

First of all, I've said this before but all computers are a scourge of the earth and you should pay as little as possible, and fiddle with them as little as possible. The second you get a computer, you will get weird problems and it will only get worse. As for which computer is better the main axiom is:

New is always better, no matter what system.
Any new computer today is going to kick ass.

Processor Speed: although pc.'s often claim faster speeds, it should be noted that macs of equal processor speeds generally start and load programs faster, simply because they're designed better. I've read computer mag's that timed loading times pointing this out. I'm too lazy to find one on the web now, so either believe me or don't. also with crazily fast speeds these days, it doesn't matter anymore. They all run programs well. I will say that PC makers work faster in putting out more and more fast computers so that, by the time testers make a comparison, PC's already have a faster one out, negating the test.

fans: although Mac's don't have fans this isn't a deficiency as Mac's produce less heat. If they were more poorly designed, like some pc's they would have fans added to cool them. Again, although mac's are better designed (in general) they take longer to come out which is a pain in the ass. Just get it out and slap on a fan, hell, I don't care. It doesn't need to be perfect or look like a desklamp, rubix cube, fish bowl, etc... For those of you with hot rooms, buy a real fan or an air conditioner.

Now, between which platforms are better, both have plusses and minuses

You can argue about which system makes more intuitive sense but the fact is, neither do. When something goes wrong, or you want to find files you have to be an expert. They both take getting used to, and you have to learn through trial and error what not to fiddle with.

Macs freeze, and Pc's perform illegal operations. Both can get fucked up seriously for crimes such as turning off without shutting down (I didn't do it, I own laptops and people keep closing them instead of doing it right). Neither have a simple intuitive program for fixing things. and then when you take it to someone to fix, they just erase everything, and charge you hundreds of dollars.

Other than this, Macs are more expensive, have less games, and (a horrible crime) have only one button on their mouse. How Stupid! How can you play a game on that!? My mac addicted older brother tells me to just buy a controller, but that's more money and more things to carry for a laptop. It's just a nuisance. On the Mac's laptop side, you can switch around what you put in ports - batteries, zipdrives, floppy's, CD-Roms, etc. You can switch batteries without shutting down by keeping one fresh battery on the other side. It's neat, but doesn't come in handy that often. If only Blizzard wouldn't require cd's to start and run games. just install and put away damnit!

Thats not really a fault of the computer. Its just that hard drives need power to be able to read and write. If you shut down, there is no power. Its like putting a CD on a record player. It will really fuck it up because it wasnt deigned for that. Not really a minus. As for the faster boot up times, that really depends per system. My friend has his up in about 18 seconds with Windows XP, but thats because he has the start up programs stripped down to what he actually uses.

yeah, but it should be designed for that, because that's what commonly happens. Plus sometimes my computer just freezes (I though PC's weren't supposed to do this!) and nothing works.

CTR-ALT-DEL doesn't work
holding down the power button doesn't work

so me being computer illiterate I just pull the plug and take out the battery. I know it's bad, but someone please tell me an alternative. I hate computers.

You can kick it
You can hite it with a bat
You can shoot it
You canstrap high exlosives to it and ignite it
You can get gasoline and stiraphoam and shove stirophoam in the gasoline till it gets all gooy and spread that all over the comp then light that on fire
You can drop it off your roof

But I perfer to just hold down the power button for a long time till it shuts down, and that always works for me. Then if that doesn't work you should take it to a profesional to see whats wrong.

Hot damn computers with no reset button? The holding down the power should do it anyways. Never seen a computer without a reset buttong (separate from the power button)

with my laptop, repeatedly pressing CTR+ALT+DEL should restart it. but, when it doesn't? then what?

My god, this is taking the biscuit, macs and pc's are both cool:

Macs for the ease of use and cool style as well as being powerfull and fast...

PCs are easy to afford and to get lots of exellent software for as well as being expandable and reliable

END!

$95 - 17inch .27m 1280x1024 Three years Hansol warranty
$175 - Price For Online Orders, KLE133, 266FSB, 2 PC133 , ATA 100, AC97, 3 PCI, CPU Fan, With Athlon XP 1700+
$151 Geforce 3 Ti200
$4 Floppy Drive
$30 Generic case w/ power supply
$18 IDE CDROM drive
$8 Logitech natural elite keyboard
$10 microsoft intellimouse (not the infared one)
$10 generic modem
$55 256MB DDR RAM PC2100
$99 Windows XP home edition
$59 speakers /w subwoofer
$50 sound blaster live value

for a grand total of: about $754 USD Its not the best sytem, but the motherboard, processor, video card, and ram are pretty damn good. For about $200-400 more you could get a bitchen system. Plus, if kept your old sound card, monitor, speakers, case, keyboard, mouse, cd rom, floppy drive, modem, and OS you can get it really cheap. With Imacs you cant even keep the monitor.

That system is pretty crappy actually. I dont trust anything below $1500 if it comes pre assembled. However, if you build your own you can easly get top system for under $1000

Once again, you fail to provide any facts to back up your claim. Please show me where you get the 1Ghz G4 = 3.5 Ghz Intel (I'll assume you mean intel since AMD beats intel at lower clock speeds). I dont even know why this thread even went this far. You mac fanatics have proved absolutely nothing, and made no effort to either.
