Mine was Dune 2. It came out in 1992, Westwood Studios. It was like THE game that made strategy popular...it was pretty good for its time, actually. However, it was not at all balanced, as the race, the Harkonnen, were the strongest. They had powerful tanks and infantry. Although, I do not know why Westwood keeps putting these infantry in their games...I mean they're useless!!! (Remember, Command and Conquer, Red Alert, AfterMath, Counterstrike? USELESS infantry)

Mine was warcraft1. It was awesome back in the day, and I got it from my friend. I got War2 pretty soon afterwards, and still play War2 BNE ocasionally.

Infantry are the backbone of any society in Westwood games... In Red Alert 2, they're even crucial in some games with buildings that you can only garrison with INFANTRY. And the Allies' infantry can sandbag itself becoming a mini-turret with increased range(and ROF I think). Red Alert 2 is truly the best RTS I have ever played, but Westwood could take a few hints from BENT.

Oh and the first RTS I ever played was Command & Conquer.

Warcraft 2 introduced the new and exciting world of stratagy for me. I never played 1, wouldn't even know where to look for it.

It was the summer I tore ligiments in my ankle and I played hours on end of it.

You can get WarCraft 1 from the Blizzard Online Store at www.blizzard.com It's ten dollars but it sucks now.

It all depends on which game. I mean if you count a demo then it would have to be Warcraft 1, but if you don't it would have to be dark reign (it was ok, but it wasn't great).

My first RTS was WarCraft II. Hey Tundra I've seen WarCraft I at many computers stores. It comes in a box set with WarCraftII.

I think the first strategy game I ever played (if you count empire-builders) was Civilisation 1. One of the greatest games ever made. Other than that, Star Control 1, or Warcraft 1...

I played checkers first. But that is a board game so it doesn't really count. The first computer strategy would have been warcraft2.

My very first game was Chess. On the computer, it was warcraft 1. That game is still awesome in my book, cause it was the game that started everything!

My first was warcraft 2 in 5th grade. My friend who was a psycho in that day, was obsessed with the game and was always dragging me around the neighborhood to find someone who had it. Finally we found one and his mom got pissed off when she saw it had blood. I got the hang of it and when starcraft came out I was blown away, but sadly, my friend was tired of comp games.

C&C 1. The only thing I played even close to RTS before that was XCOM, and that was turn based strategy, not real time strategy.

I remember playing nintendo chess when I was 4 years old. I can't find the game I played, though. It was so cool! Once you land on a piece, you'd go into a battle screen and have to fight the man. Whoever won would get the square.

I think Sameer's referring to Herzog Zwei.

The first computer strategy game was I played was Archon. I used to play it at a cousin's house, who had the game on his old computer. Still one of the best games EVER made in my opinion. It managed to have the aspects of a turn-based strategy, kind of like the way Chess is played, but also incorporate real-time battles. Not only was it fun, but it was FANTASY! I think that was the first real step into fantasy for me. That game opened a whole new world of mythology for me. Of course Warcraft 2 opened up the next big step.

Thats crazy cool Scias. That's the exact order for how i went through strat games (cept that ogre shit). I also played chess, but I think they are refering to electronic stuff.

My first was the original warlords. My least favorite strategy game company is probably westwood.

I first played Dune, though I never really got into it... Sim City kinda got me into the whole building cities thing, killing lots of people naturally came next. Warcraft II was the game that really got me hooked, and then of course Starcraft.
